To the Lighthouse
Last weekend I went to Bruny Island for a day trip. I love this place! It is so wild and beautiful and despite being moderately populated it feels quite isolated. Probably because it is a completely separate island that must be travelled to by ferry. I drove down to Cape Bruny which is on the Southern most tip of the South Island. Here there is one of the oldest continually operating light houses in the southern hemisphere. This place is majestic. It is wild and beautiful and so very inspiring. I took a small travelling kit of water colour paints and some cards and painted the view from a few places.

Curiouser and Curiouser
Today I went to the fabulous Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and was totally inspired by the interesting displays and slightly foreboding atmosphere. This place is rife with Victoriana Naturalism, if you know where to look, and everything is shown so beautifully. The lighting is dramatic to say the least! I love the quietness of the place as well. You get a real sense of discovery as you wind your way through the rooms and vaults, finding all sorts of things that pique the interest.

An Autumn Stroll
I went for my daily walk this evening in crisp Autumn splendour. These are the things that caught my eye (and my camera lens!) - The beautiful colours of the season with a few last fading blooms being replaced by fiery toned leaves. With the smell of wood smoke and apple cider wafting down the rivulet from the nearby brewery, I really felt immersed in the season.

Finalist!
I have very exciting news to announce. I am a finalist in the Bay of Fires Art Prize 2014! Whilst I can't show my entry until the finalist's exhibition, I can tell you that the exhibition for this year's finalists will be held at the Tidal Waters Resort in St Helens Tasmania and will be on show from the 7th June until the 19th July 2014. I am honoured to be included in this prestigious art prize and will be crossing all my fingers and toes that I take out the prize of $20,000. I'm sure whoever the wins will be greatly deserved and I can't wait to see what other artworks are included. Wish me luck.....

Today's feature painting: "Blossomtime"
Today's feature painting in my pop-up gallery is a beautiful rose variety called "Blossomtime". This is a beautiful, delicate pink rose with many folding petals forming a whorled centre that seems to undulate before your eyes. This painting is oil on canvas, 100cm x 76cm and is for sale in the shop for $1050. This would be the perfect piece for a bedroom, with such romance and delicate beauty!

Pop Up Gallery
After recently returning from a painting workshop in South Australia, I was so inspired and got to thinking about ways to promote my business and get my paintings into the public domain. I decided to hold a pop up gallery / shop of my art in a vacant shop front in North Hobart. I found a great space at 279 Elizabeth St North Hobart and have inhabited it for the next week. It looks stunning, especially at night with the paintings illuminated. I've had some good sales already so I don't think it will be long before this batch of beautiful paintings have found new walls to grace.
